Reflecting on the harrowing loss of young people to gun violence, substance abuse, and other targeted policy against our LGBTQ+ youth and youth of color, the committee would like to announce this year's theme: El año de los santos. Keep our kids off our altars. We as a community have become desensitized to gun violence and young men/youth of color are disproportionately impacted. There has been a lack of investment in mental and behavioral health resources, a growing rate of fatal substances, and a lack of substance awareness made available to our youth. Disturbingly, there has been a lack of tangible action taken from our community representatives. This year, we want to honor the needless loss of so many young lives and encourage this space to grieve our young people. How has this affected you? In what ways can we rally to support our youth and hold systems accountable for their safety? In uplifting the proverb, "It takes a village", we must commit ourselves to their collective care.
